Matchday 21

Beşiktaş won’t travel far for matchday 21 of the 2015-2016 Spor Toto Süper Lig season as they face Medipol Başakşehir at the stadium they’ve been calling home for a large part of the past two seasons.

When these two sides met earlier this season a Mario Gómez brace proved sufficient at the Atatürk Olimpiyat to seal the 3 points for the Black Eagles, but at the time Başakşehir were still finding their good form after an early start to the season with their short lived European adventure. Since then Başakşehir have established themselves once again as a top five side in the league as they have consistently been around place four, on equal points now with 3rd placed Galatasaray. A win for the hosts would mean they’d overtake last years champions while the Black Eagles need the 3 points in order to overtake Fenerbahçe midweek if they make it two for two by beating Mersin Idmanyurdu aswell as Başakşehir.

Beşiktaş have some worries though, as Marcelo was sent off with a direct red card this past week in the Turkish cup meaning he won’t be able to play today. And Luiz Rhodolfo suffered a devastating 6 month injury last week in the 4-0 win over Gaziantepspor, tearing his MCL. That leaves only new trnasfer Alexis Delgado, due to the depart of Ersan Gülüm to China. We’ll likely see Alexis partnering up with Necip Uysal, who has played as a central defender multiple times over the past few seasons.

Despite the woes in the back the Black Eagles have all they key players available in midfield and the offensive third of the pitch. Mario Gómez became the lone topscorer in the Süper Lig with his brace last weekend and will be looking for his 16th league goal of the season tonight, while second striker Cenk Tosun scored his 14th goal in all competitions this past week in the cup against Konyaspor. Gökhan Töre, Quaresma, Olcay, Oguzhan, Kerim and Sosa are all available while Tolgay Arslan was on the bench for the first time this past week against Konyaspor, since his ACL injury 8 months ago.

Beşiktaş predicted XI:

Tolga Zengin; Andreas Beck – Alexis Delgado – Necip Uysal –  İsmail Köybaşı; Atiba Hutchinson – Oğuzhan Özyakup – José Sosa; Ricardo Quaresma (Olcay) – Gökhan Töre – Mario Gómez
