Trabzonspor – Beşiktaş post-match reactions

Updated: March 16, 2016

Şenol Güneş: “We deserved the win. In the first half there was a lack of unity and a loss of possession. Both teams were part of the game. In the second half we were in control of the game. In an away game 0-2 is a good score. The matches against Rizespor and Trabzonspor were important, but the really important match is going to be the one against Antalyaspor.

When Güneş is asked about a tweet of Fenerbahçe official Firat Önder, in which he implied Trabzonspor gave away the game on purpose, he replies: “People who think about Trabzonspor giving away the game, are the ones that get involved in business like this. Trabzonspor beat us in Istanbul, but lost to them there.”

Finally, Güneş is asked about the similarities between this game and Eskisehirspor – Trabzonspor in round 30 of the 2010-2011 season, which ended 0-0 after some mistakes of today’s referee Bülent Yıldırım and meant Fenerbahçe became champions instead of his team. He answers: “Don’t get into that subject please. I know what you are trying to say, don’t get me there. Yes, I felt that in the 8th minute today, but I don’t want to get into that subject. My players saved everyone today. Don’t talk about the referee.”

Mario Gómez: “I don’t pay attention to how much goals I have scored. I only care about being leader and we currently are. The match was difficult. There have been incidents in Ankara which have saddened us deeply. I slipped a lot during my shots today. I scored an important goal and we won. We have been here for a long time. We stayed in an hotel, it was very boring. We needed to keep our concentration high. Some of us were tired, but we showed the mentality of our team. We have the strength to win all our next games.”

Oğuzhan Özyakup: “I offer my condolences to the people who have lost their lives in Ankara. A tear came out of the MRI scan after the Rize game, but I felt good and played on my own request. I felt a little pain, but we need to sacrifice ourselves. Today I injured my shoulder when I fell. We didn’t start the game well. They gave us a lot of space, but we couldn’t profit from it. We were in control of the game in the second half. I want to rest well this week and play without pain in my next match.”

Ricardo Quaresma: “We have gotten good results in our last two games. We are now leaders in the league, but we should keep our feet on the ground. I’m happy I helped my team to win this game. We are progressing towards our goals with our quality players.”
