Mario Gómez scores again as Germany make quick work of Slovakia

Updated: June 26, 2016

Beşiktaş striker Mario Gómez has bagged his second goal in his second start at the UEFA EURO 2016 tournament as Germany easily disposed of Slovakia in the 1/8 finals.

Mario Gómez has scored five goals in 12 EURO appearances for Germany. Will he surpass Jürgen Klinsmann as Germany’s all time topscorer at the EUROs?

Jerome Boateng had put die Mannschaft in the lead early on with a splending low volley in the 8th minute. Mario Gómez doubled the scoreline just before halftime in the 43rd minute after a splendid assist from Julien Draxler. Mario Gómez now has 29 goals in 66 appearances for Germany aswell as 5 goals spread across three European championships (2008, 2012 & 2016) matching Jürgen Klinsmann all time record for Germany.

In the second half that same Julien Draxler rounded off an excellent match with a goal after a fantastic volley for the 3-0. At no point did Slovakia look like a match for the Germans who have now qualified for the quarter-finals in which they’ll face either Italy or Spain.

Beşiktaş players have now scored three goals so far during the European championship, Mario Gómez (Germany) scoring twice and Ricardo Quaresma (Portugal) scoring once.
