“We were good except in the last phase of the match”

Updated: September 29, 2016

Beşiktaş got a 1-1 draw at Vodafone Arena against Dynamo Kiev in their second game of Champions League Group B. Here is what head coach Şenol Güneş had to say after the game:

“We could have scored the second goal….”

“The goal we conceded was not a foul. Even if it was a foul, he didn’t had the need to touch him, because no one marked the goal scorer. We conceded a very simple goal and our moral and physique dropped after that. Because we couldn’t get to the opponent’s half, they started pushing up front and got in control of the game. We could have scored the second goal when it was 1-0. The quality of our players is good but the drop in our physique cost us 2 points. We were good, except in the last phase of the match. ”

“The game changed after the goal”

“Our opponent didn’t have a single succesful attack but the game changed after we conceded a goal. There was no reason to make a substitution before that. Football is a game of mistakes. In the first half we gave away opportunities with Atiba and Tolgay’s mistakes and when we make them the opponent will take advantage of that. We did a lot more right though.”
