STSL week 18: Alanyaspor – Beşiktaş

Updated: January 23, 2017

Having started off 2017 on a positive note by securing 3 points away at Osmanlispor, Beşiktaş now travel away to Alanyaspor where they’ll attempt to start off the year with six points.

With a tasking Champions League campaign during the first months of the season Beşiktaş found themselves behind surprising leaders Istanbul Başakşehir for nearly all of the first half of the season, but with Başakşehir’s first defeat of their Süper Lig campaign yesterday, Beşiktaş have the opportunity to finally take first place.

Alanyaspor have been an inconsistent but at times surprising side, Beşiktaş made quick work of them during the season opener, sending them back home with a 4-1 defeat, but Alanyaspor have since made some good moves on the transfer market and have pulled off some stunts before. Securing a point away at Fenerbahçe and beating Trabzonspor likely the most noteworthy results for the Antalya based side.

Alanyaspor will have to do without one of their star players Candeias however, who received a red card in their match last week against Rizespor (2-3 home defeat). But others to watch will surely be Emre Akbaba and Vagner Love while new transfer Glymor Plet already got on the scoresheet during his Süper Lig debut last week. Kenneth Omeruo will also miss the match due to a yellow card suspension.

Despite a solid win last week against Osmanlispor, Beşiktaş seemingly suffered two injury blows as both their new transfer Ryan Babel and rightback Gökhan Gönül had to be taken off due to injury, however both men should be fit to play and will atleast be in the matchday squad.

With their first league home game of 2017 ahead of them against a tough opponent as Konyaspor, a boost in morale with another win and clinching the top spot would surely come in welcome.
