STSL week 33: Gaziantepspor – Beşiktaş

Updated: May 28, 2017

Following closest rivals Istanbul Başakşehir’s draw in Trabzon last week, Beşiktaş will lift their second consecutive Turkish league title tonight should they beat Gaziantepspor in Gaziantep.

Wtih 18 goals Cenk Tosun is Beşiktaş’ topscorer, he needs 3 goals to pull level with current league topscorer Vagner Love, can he do it against his ex-club?

The hosts were relegated from the Süper Lig last week following their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Rizespor and since then Gaziantepspor have released 7 players including captain Elyasa Süme and goalkeepers Paolo Victor and Gökhan Değirmenci. Gaziantepspor coach Bülent Uygun already revealed that he would be forced to play several youth players against the Black Eagles.

Beşiktaş on the other hand will be at near full strength, only Ricardo Quaresma is ruled out for this match due to a muscle strain and Atiba Hutchinson is not yet 100% match fit. The Black Eagles are expected to start with both Vincent Aboubakar and Cenk Tosun up front. A win today will guarantee Beşiktaş the 2016/17 Süper Lig title.

Gaziantepspor have made roughly 24.000 of a total 35.500 tickets available for Beşiktaş fans of which more than 19.000 have been sold thusfar, giving Beşiktaş a near home field advantage.

Head to head

Beşiktaş haven’t lost against Gaziantepspor since September 22nd 2012, since then both teams have played a total of 7 matches, Beşiktaş have won 5 of those matches. The latest two matches between these two teams both ended in a 4-0 victory for the Black Eagles.
