A new contract for Captain Oğuzhan Özyakup…

Updated: June 3, 2017

Over the past months it’s been revealed that Beşiktaş captain Oğuzhan Özyakup is to sign a new contract with the Black Eagles.

However, as Oğuzhan Özyakup has expressed several times he also has aspirations in Europe. Therefore a special release clause of €12m is to be included in Oğuzhan’s new 5-year deal. That clause expires at the 15 of July however and it only valid for 5 teams which Oğuzhan has specified in his contract.

Editor’s insights: With this clause Beşiktaş are forcing interested clubs not to sit around all Summer and wait until August to put in a concrete offer. Once the deadline of the release clause expires the Black Eagles will not be willing to sell at this price. Due to the Financial Fairplay transfer restrictions Beşiktaş will need to sell players in order to make new transfers, Beşiktaş already spent last Summer waiting around for West Ham United to finally put in a concrete offer for Gökhan Töre and with this clause are trying to push interested clubs to move quicker.

By no means is Oğuzhan Özyakup’s departure a necessary thing, on the contrary, but should he leave they rather have it happen early in the transfer window so a fitting replacement can be found in a timely manner.
